PPI helps compare sharpness across displays. A larger monitor with the same resolution usually has lower PPI, while a smaller high-resolution phone has much higher PPI.
Text and UI can look larger, but pixels may be more visible at close distances.
Sharper text and images, usually better for phones, tablets, design, and retina-style screens.
How to use it
Use the PPI calculator to compare screen sharpness across phones, laptops, monitors, and TVs. Pixel density is calculated from physical resolution and diagonal size, so it explains why the same resolution can feel sharper on a smaller display.
Limitation: PPI does not measure brightness, panel quality, subpixel layout, scaling, or viewing distance. Treat it as a sharpness reference, then test the real display when comfort matters.
A 24-inch 1080p monitor is around 92 PPI and is common for office desktops.
A 27-inch 1440p monitor is around 109 PPI and is a balanced productivity setup.
A 32-inch 4K monitor is around 138 PPI and usually looks sharper at normal desk distance.
Around 90 to 110 PPI is common for everyday desktop monitors. Higher values can look sharper, especially for text and design work.
PPI changes with physical diagonal size. The same pixel grid spread across a larger screen produces lower pixel density.
It gives useful context, but the best scaling setting also depends on operating system, distance, eyesight, and app UI size.
