Why PPI matters

PPI helps compare sharpness across displays. A larger monitor with the same resolution usually has lower PPI, while a smaller high-resolution phone has much higher PPI.

Lower PPI

Text and UI can look larger, but pixels may be more visible at close distances.

Higher PPI

Sharper text and images, usually better for phones, tablets, design, and retina-style screens.

What is a good PPI for a monitor?

Around 90 to 110 PPI is common for everyday desktop monitors. Higher values can look sharper, especially for text and design work.

Why does the same resolution have different PPI?

PPI changes with physical diagonal size. The same pixel grid spread across a larger screen produces lower pixel density.

Can PPI tell me the best scaling setting?

It gives useful context, but the best scaling setting also depends on operating system, distance, eyesight, and app UI size.
